At times, it looked like Rousseff might be on her way out, but political wrangling and questions about whether House Speaker Eduardo Cunha &#8211; the lawmaker pushing hardest for the President\u2019s ouster- \u00a0accepted bribes complicated the process.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">As\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2016-03-11\/brazil-s-corruption-scandal-grows-ever-nearer-to-rousseff\">Bloomberg wrote earlier this week<\/a>, a string of recent events tied to the seemingly never-ending Carwash Probe &#8211; the 2-year long investigation into corruption involving Petrobras &#8211; have\u00a0<strong>brought prosecutors ever closer to Rousseff<\/strong>. That, combined with the fact that the country is mired in a deep economic downturn characterized by double-digit inflation and soaring unemployment has the public at wit\u2019s end.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cOn Feb. 22, Rousseff\u2019s top campaign strategist, Jo\u00e3o Santana, was arrested for allegedly receiving $7.5 million, [then] the magazine IstoE reported that the government\u2019s former leader in the senate, Delc\u00eddio do Amaral, had alleged that Rousseff had pushed judges to release political allies imprisoned on charges of graft,\u201d Bloomberg recounted.
