target=\"_blank\">INTERVIEW WITH DR BENN STEIL, DIRECTOR OF INTERNATIONAL ECONOMICS AT THE COUNCIL ON FOREIGN RELATIONS<\/a><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"entry-media\">Dr. Benn Steil is senior fellow and director of international economics at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York.\u00a0 He is also the founding editor of\u00a0<em>International Finance<\/em>, a top scholarly economics journal, and lead writer of the Council\u2019s\u00a0<em>Geo-Graphics<\/em>\u00a0economics blog.\u00a0 Prior to his joining the Council in 1999, he was director of the International Economics Programme at the Royal Institute of International Affairs in London.\u00a0 He came to the Institute in 1992 from a Lloyd\u2019s of London Tercentenary Research Fellowship at Nuffield College, Oxford, where he received his MPhil and DPhil (PhD) in economics.\u00a0 He also holds a BSc in economics\u00a0<em>summa cum laude<\/em>\u00a0from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.<\/div>\n<div class=\"wrapper\">\n<div class=\"grids\">\n<div class=\"grid-8 column-1\">\n<div class=\"single-box clearfix entry-content\">\n<p>Dr. Steil has written and spoken widely on international finance, monetary policy, financial markets, and economic history.\u00a0 He has testified before the U.S. House, Senate, and CFTC on financial market and monetary issues.\u00a0 He is a regular op-ed contributor at the\u00a0<em>Wall Street Journal<\/em>\u00a0and the\u00a0<em>Financial Times<\/em>.\u00a0 His latest book,\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cfr.org\/international-finance\/battle-bretton-woods\/p29748\">The Battle of Bretton Woods<\/a>: John Maynard Keynes, Harry Dexter White, and the Making of a New World Order<\/em>, won the 2013 Spear\u2019s Book Award in Financial History, took third prize in CFR\u2019s 2014 Arthur Ross Book Award competition, was shortlisted for the 2014 Lionel Gelber Prize (\u201cthe world\u2019s most important prize for non-fiction,\u201d according to\u00a0<em>The Economist<\/em>), and was the top book-of-the-year choice in Bloomberg\u2019s 2013 poll of global policymakers and CEOs.\u00a0 The book has been called \u201ca triumph of economic and diplomatic history\u201d by the\u00a0<em>Financial Times<\/em>, \u201ca superb history\u201d by the\u00a0<em>Wall Street Journal<\/em>, \u201cthe gold standard on its subject\u201d by the\u00a0<em>New York Times<\/em>, and \u201cthe publishing event of the season\u201d by Bloomberg\u2019s Tom
