{"id":16833,"date":"2016-01-22T13:32:54","date_gmt":"2016-01-22T18:32:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=16833"},"modified":"2016-01-22T13:33:18","modified_gmt":"2016-01-22T18:33:18","slug":"chasing-the-wild-goose-in-davos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=16833","title":{"rendered":"Chasing the Wild Goose in Davos"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 class=\"entry-title\"><a href=\"http:\/\/economicprism.com\/chasing-the-wild-goose-in-davos\/\" target=\"_blank\">Chasing the Wild Goose in Davos<\/a><\/h3>\n<div class=\"entry-meta\"><a href=\"http:\/\/economicprism.com\/chasing-the-wild-goose-in-davos\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1287 size-full\" title=\"Chasing the Wild Goose in Davos\" src=\"http:\/\/economicprism.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/SwissAlps.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>Despite the reformers endless efforts to encircle mankind, some persist beyond the broad extent of their casted net.\u00a0 In the backwaters of the new Republic, for instance, the distant rumble and flicker of Saturday night hootenannies still befall yonder the mighty oak groves.<\/p>\n<p>In defiance of all things good and proper, the unconsecrated gather under the pale moonlight and jig step to zydeco washboard rhythms while downing tipples of corn syrup and fermented grain.\u00a0 These knees-ups certify that, even in this era of big government, there remain places in the lower forty-eight where freedom reigns.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, the backwoods of the old world, rare as they may be, have not been entirely defamed.\u00a0 Though old world songs are more rigid \u2013 and drinks more dry \u2013 there are still places where people come together with gusto, and without interference, to dance the polka around the maypole.<\/p>\n<p>Across the planet, no doubt, there are still pockets of liberty where individuals can lawfully expel into toilet bowls that use more than\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com\/2015\/04\/08\/california-drought-tough-new-rules-efficient-toilet-faucet-urinal\/\">1.28 gallons per flush<\/a>.\u00a0 These places are uniquely exceptional with their own distinct rhyme.<span id=\"more-4788\"><\/span>\u00a0 But, in common, they\u2019re all places where the air smells sweet, the water flows clean, and the people can hold their chin up.<\/p>\n<p>Davos, Switzerland, located along Landwasser River, in the Swiss Alps, should be one of those places.\u00a0 But, alas, it is not.\u00a0 Sadly, for one week each year, corporate, political and academic reformers debase the wealthy enclave and ski resort for their annual hootenanny\u2026the World Economic Forum.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Improving the State of the World<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This week the big gathering went down.\u00a0 Although we didn\u2019t receive an invitation this year \u2013 again \u2013 we won\u2019t let that stop us from offering some reflections.<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;click on the above link to read the rest of the article&#8230;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Chasing the Wild Goose in Davos Despite the reformers endless efforts to encircle mankind, some persist beyond the broad extent of their casted net.\u00a0 In the backwaters of the new Republic, for instance, the distant rumble and flicker of Saturday night hootenannies still befall yonder the mighty oak groves.
