Stephen Hawking Warns Humanity: Leave Earth Before the Ruling Class Destroys It<\/a><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

(<\/b>ANTIMEDIA<\/b><\/a>)<\/b>\u00a0United Kingdom\u00a0<\/i>\u2014 Humanity\u2019s future is in peril thanks to so-called advancements in science and technology, claims Professor Stephen Hawking, who\u00a0cited<\/a>\u00a0\u201cnuclear war, global warming, and genetically-modified viruses\u201d<\/i><\/b>\u00a0as deadly threats to our existence.<\/div>\n

Hawking described various\u00a0\u201cthings that could go wrong\u201d<\/i>\u00a0to an audience of hundreds attending the first in a series of BBC Reith Lectures, which pertain to research about black holes. He asserted the necessity for colonization of other planets to ensure survival of the human species.\u00a0According to<\/a>\u00a0the\u00a0BBC<\/i>, Hawking cautioned:<\/p>\n
\u201cAlthough the chance of a disaster to planet Earth in a given year might be quite low, it adds up over time, and becomes a near certainty in the next thousand or ten thousand years.<\/i><\/div>\n

\u201cBy that time, we should have spread out into space, and to other stars, so a disaster on Earth would not mean the end of the human race.<\/i><\/p>\n

\u201cHowever, we will not establish self-sustaining colonies in space for at least the next hundred years, so we have to be very careful in this period.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

Though it would seem counterproductive for such a well-respected scientist to decry scientific progress as humanity\u2019s most existential threat, this isn\u2019t the first time Hawking has advised us to exercise caution, as\u00a0Anti-Media<\/i>\u00a0has\u00a0reported several times<\/a>. Last summer, the theoretical physicist was among over 1,000 artificial intelligence experts who\u00a0signed an open letter<\/a>\u00a0about the weaponization of robots and the ongoing\u00a0\u201cmilitary artificial intelligence arms race\u201d<\/i>\u00a0among the world\u2019s military powers.<\/p>\n

In October of last year, Hawking\u00a0warned scientists<\/a>\u00a0at the European Center for Nuclear Research (CERN) about the potential for the Higgs Boson\u00a0\u201cGod Particle\u201d<\/i>\u00a0to initiate\u00a0\u201c<\/i>catastrophic vacuum decay<\/i><\/a>\u201d<\/i>\u00a0\u2014 the formation of a quantum bubble that expands at the speed of light and could decimate the entire universe. Concern over the automation of the world\u2019s workforce coupled with capitalist greed also earned the scientist\u2019s stern alarm.<\/p>\n
