One of the two pilots was killed.<\/p>\n<p>Although Turkey claimed the (17 second) violation of its airspace was unacceptable and just cause for military engagement, it was just three years prior that Erdogan\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2015-11-25\/who-said-it-short-term-border-violation-can-never-be-pretext-attack\">had decried<\/a>\u00a0the downing of a Turkish F-4 phantom in Syria\u2019s airspace.&#8221;A short-term border violation can never be a pretext for an attack,&#8221; he declared.<\/p>\n<p>But that wasn\u2019t the only hypocrisy apparent in Turkey\u2019s brazen move. According to the University of Thessaly (whose statistics are based on the Greek military\u2019s tally),\u00a0<strong>there were 2,244 violations of Greece\u2019s airspace by Turkish jets in 2014 alone, representing an increase of some 250% from 2013.<\/strong>Here\u2019s a look at the graphic:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/user92183\/imageroot\/2015\/12\/TurkeyGreeceAirspace.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"509\" height=\"326\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Well don\u2019t look now,\u00a0<strong>but Turkish and Greek fighters just got into a dogfight over the\u00a0Aegean.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ekathimerini.com\/204669\/article\/ekathimerini\/news\/greek-and-turkish-jets-in-dogfight-over-aegean\">eKathimerini<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"quote_start\"><strong>Greek and Turkish jets engaged in a brief dogfight over the Aegean Sea on Tuesday after Turkish aircraft violated Greek national air space several times.<\/strong><\/div>\n<p><em>A formation of six Turkish jets, flanked by two CN-235 aircraft that were not in formation,\u00a0<strong>violated Greek air space nine times<\/strong>, according to Greek defense officials.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/user92183\/imageroot\/2015\/12\/GreeceTurkeyDogfight_0.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"370\" \/><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>In all cases the Turkish jets were chased off by Greek aircraft. Two of the eight Turkish aircraft were armed.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The violations were the first since early December following a minor diplomatic spat between the two Aegean neighbors after a message on Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras\u2019s Twitter account accused Turkish jets of repeated transgressions in the Aegean.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Since Erdogan is a fair man, and because we&#8217;re sure Turkey&#8217;s attack on the Russian warplane was completely legitimate, we suppose the Turkish President would have understood if Greece had shot down one of Turkey&#8217;s fighters.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Turkish, Greek Jets Engage In Dogfight Over Mediterranean Turkey is no stranger to aerial conflict of late.
