With almost $300 billion in debt, and almost 1 in 10 dollars of revenue going to pay interest, and already facing the highest tax rates in North America,<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thestar.com\/news\/canada\/2015\/12\/20\/ontarians-urged-to-help-province-pay-off-its-debt.html\">\u00a0The Star reports<\/a>\u00a0that\u00a0<strong>Ontario officials are asking that &#8216;patriots&#8217; voluntarily donate their tax refund or write a cheque to defray the province&#8217;s massive debtload<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"content\">\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/user3303\/imageroot\/2015\/12-overflow\/20151227_fupaymne.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/user3303\/imageroot\/2015\/12-overflow\/20151227_fupaymne.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.torontosun.com\/2015\/12\/25\/buddy-can-you-spare-300-billion\"><em>As The Toronto Sun reports<\/em><\/a>,\u00a0<strong>Canada\u2019s largest province has asked its taxpayers to donate their hard-earned money to the cause of bailing out the much indebted provincial government.<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>For a mere $21,000 for every man, woman and child in the province, Ontario could be debt free.<\/p>\n<p>No, this is not some kind of holiday joke about the Grinch who stole Christmas.<\/p>\n<p><u><strong>On top of paying among the highest taxes in North America, and coping with skyrocketing hydro prices \u2014 hikes directly caused by the decisions made by this Liberal administration and the previous one \u2014 the Wynne government wants more.<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n<p>Treasury Board Chair Deb Matthews made the bold request last week, and specifically asked folks to donate their tax return rebate to help pay off the provincial debt.<\/p>\n<p><u><em><strong>\u201cIt\u2019s an unusual thing for someone to do, but I would encourage any Ontarian who wants to make a contribution to feel free to do so,\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/u>\u00a0said Matthews.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>A government asking for donations isn\u2019t just unusual. It\u2019s like a stranger taking your car and then coming back the next day to ask if you\u2019ll chip in some money for the gas.
