{"id":15672,"date":"2015-12-25T11:23:01","date_gmt":"2015-12-25T16:23:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=15672"},"modified":"2015-12-25T14:13:22","modified_gmt":"2015-12-25T19:13:22","slug":"more-canadians-going-cashless-thanks-to-apps-credit-and-debit-cards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=15672","title":{"rendered":"More Canadians Going Cashless Thanks To Apps, Credit And Debit Cards"},"content":{"rendered":"<header>\n<h3 class=\"title\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.ca\/2015\/12\/25\/cashless-apps-debit-credit_n_8876896.html\" target=\"_blank\">More Canadians Going Cashless Thanks To Apps, Credit And Debit Cards<\/a><\/h3>\n<\/header>\n<div id=\"mainentrycontent\" class=\"content\">\n<p>TORONTO \u2014 Maureen Turner still makes a point of carrying coins and bills in her wallet \u2014 but not for her own personal use.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I have four kids, and often the teenagers will say: &#8216;I need $20 for lunch at school,'&#8221; says the Georgetown, Ont., resident, whose children range in age from five to 15.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I keep cash in my wallet sometimes just for my kids.\u00a0Anything else I don&#8217;t see why I would\u00a0need it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div id=\"modulous_mid_article\" class=\"ad_spot\">Turner, a 42-year-old account executive and social media strategist for a PR firm,\u00a0relies on her debit card for purchases, and also uses mobile apps for banking and coffee runs at Starbucks.<\/div>\n<p>She&#8217;s among a growing number of Canadians finding there&#8217;s no longer a real need to carry cash.<\/p>\n<p>An online survey of 1,000 people conducted by processing payments firm\u00a0Moneris\u00a0earlier this year found that 77 per cent of respondents preferred to pay for purchases by debit or credit card, and 65 per cent said they rarely buy anything with cash anymore.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"pull-quote\"><p><span class=\"quote\">&#8220;I keep cash in my wallet sometimes just for my kids.\u00a0Anything else I don&#8217;t see why I would\u00a0need it.&#8221;<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"qr\">\u00a0&#8220;I think we&#8217;re at a point where you don&#8217;t need cash for most of what you need to do today,&#8221; says Rob Cameron, chief product and marketing officer for Moneris.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"qr\">\n<p>&#8220;I do think people will continue to use cash because it&#8217;s been around so long&#8230;.
