A DeSmog review of lobbying records shows the bill has received heavy fossil fuel industry support, but more on that\u00a0later.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gpo.gov\/fdsys\/pkg\/BILLS-114hr644eah\/pdf\/BILLS-114hr644eah.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">language in the bill<\/a>\u00a0originally dictated that \u201ctrade agreements do not require changes to\u00a0<span class=\"caps\">U.S.<\/span>\u00a0law or obligate the United States with respect to global warming or climate\u00a0change.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.desmogblog.com\/2015\/12\/20\/www.gpo.gov\/fdsys\/pkg\/BILLS-114hr644eah\/pdf\/BILLS-114hr644eah.pdf\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.desmogblog.com\/sites\/beta.desmogblog.com\/files\/Screen%20Shot%202015-12-14%20at%207.25.54%20PM.png\" alt=\"ExxonMobil Climate Change US Trade Deals\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Image Credit:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gpo.gov\/fdsys\/pkg\/BILLS-114hr644eah\/pdf\/BILLS-114hr644eah.pdf\" target=\"_blank\"><span class=\"caps\">U.S.<\/span>\u00a0Government Printing\u00a0Office<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>According to National Journal, Congress\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationaljournal.com\/s\/125897\/how-customs-bill-ignited-fight-over-climate-change\" target=\"_blank\">changed that language\u00a0in the conference report<\/a>\u00a0to \u201cgreenhouse gas emissions\u201d and took \u201cglobal warming or climate change\u201d off the\u00a0table.<\/p>\n<h3>Koch-Funded Politician Inserts\u00a0Language<\/h3>\n<p>National Journal also detailed that\u00a0<span class=\"caps\">U.S.<\/span>\u00a0Rep. James Sensenbrenner (R-<span class=\"caps\">WI<\/span>)\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationaljournal.com\/s\/125897\/how-customs-bill-ignited-fight-over-climate-change\" target=\"_blank\">inserted the original language<\/a>\u00a0into the bill and he is content with the amended language,\u00a0too.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"dquo\">\u201c<\/span>He finds it ac\u00adcept\u00adable be\u00adcause he re\u00adceived as\u00adsur\u00adance from [<span class=\"caps\">U.S.<\/span>\u00a0Trade Rep\u00adres\u00adent\u00adat\u00adive Mi\u00adchael Fro\u00adman] that the [Trade Pro\u00admo\u00adtion Au\u00adthor\u00adity] bill does not provide the ad\u00admin\u00adis\u00adtra\u00adtion any new au\u00adthor\u00adity to enter in\u00adto cli\u00admate-change agree\u00adments,\u201d\u00a0Sensenbrenner\u00a0spokes\u00adwo\u00adman Nicole Tie\u00adman told National\u00a0Journal.<\/p>\n<p>Sensenbrenner,\u00a0campaign finance records show, maintains\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.opensecrets.org\/politicians\/contrib.php?cycle=2016&amp;cid=N00004291&amp;type=I\" target=\"_blank\">Koch Industries as one of his top donors<\/a>. He also has\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.opensecrets.org\/pfds\/assets.php?year=2014&amp;cid=N00004291\" target=\"_blank\">well over $1 million in fossil fuel industry investments<\/a>.
