{"id":15083,"date":"2015-12-08T07:44:47","date_gmt":"2015-12-08T12:44:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=15083"},"modified":"2015-12-08T07:44:47","modified_gmt":"2015-12-08T12:44:47","slug":"democratic-socialism-means-the-loss-of-liberty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=15083","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Democratic Socialism&#8217; Means the Loss of Liberty"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/www.epictimes.com\/richardebeling\/2015\/11\/democratic-socialism-means-the-loss-of-liberty\/\">\u201cDEMOCRATIC SOCIALISM\u201d MEANS THE LOSS OF LIBERTY<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Democratic Party hopeful, Bernie Sanders, recently outlined what it means for him to be a \u201cdemocratic socialist.\u201d The problem is that the same label might be applied to most of the other candidates running in both the Democratic and Republican parties running to be the nominee for presidency of the United States.<\/p>\n<p>One November 19, 2015, Bernie Sanders delivered a speech in which he outlined what he means when he calls himself a \u201cdemocratic socialist.\u201d He assured his listeners that he did not advocate government ownership of the means of production.<\/p>\n<p>He said that he supported \u201cprivate companies that thrive and invest and grow in America instead of shipping and jobs overseas.\u201d And that \u201cinnovation, entrepreneurship, and success should be rewarded. But greed for the sake of greed is not something that public policy should support.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He insisted that he \u201cmerely\u201d wanted the wealthy billionaires, the \u201cone-percenters,\u201d to pay their \u201cfair share,\u201d with the belief that if they were taxed sufficiently high then it would be able to finance all the other good things that he would like to see every American have.<\/p>\n<p><strong>FDR and His Economic \u201cBill of Rights\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>So besides a clear desire for a form of\u00a0<em>regulatory socialism<\/em>\u00a0that would see to it that private businesses did not \u201cship\u201d jobs and profits overseas, and a\u00a0<em>fiscal socialism<\/em>\u00a0that would use the tax code to redistribute wealth from that supposed \u201cone-percent,\u201d what does Bernie Sanders mean by \u201cdemocratic socialism\u201d?<\/p>\n<p>His playbook, it turns out, is Franklin D.
