We continue with an examination of the statements offered in a recent example of cherry-picked nonsense, an\u00a0article<\/a>\u00a0entitled: \u201cEarth Is An Oil-Producing Machine \u2014 We\u2019re Not Running Out.<\/em>\u201d The fine art of misleading the uninformed\u2026.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Delighted with the discovery that \u201cEarth is actually an oil-producing machine<\/em>\u201d [a secret all these eons!], our cheerleading scribe then confidently bases that bold proclamation on \u201c[r]esearch from the last decade<\/em>.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

As noted in my most recent\u00a0post<\/a><\/em>, \u201cthe \u2018research\u2019 relied upon by the author were two related and generously interpreted articles from 2008\u2014neither of which appear to have been elaborated upon since then<\/em>.\u201d Those articles were based on research conducted in 2002 and again in 2005, as explained below.<\/strong><\/p>\n

On a roll now, the writer then adds: \u201cIn other words, as\u00a0Science\u00a0magazine has reported, the \u2018data imply that hydrocarbons are produced chemically\u2019 from carbon found in Earth\u2019s mantle<\/em>.\u2019\u201d Excellent foundation and a rock-solid piece of substantiation\u2014but for the fact it\u2019s more than a bit misinterpreted [if that matters].<\/strong><\/p>\n

An at best marginally relevant, minuscule sampling of \u201cdata<\/em>\u201d which arguably implies something to dispute established evidence\u2014albeit in a vague sort of way\u2014is so much more weighty than decades of substantive yet contradictory research on point, isn\u2019t it? We have all the utterances we need \u2026 especially if we ignore the principal scientist\u2019s disclaimer [as\u00a0quoted<\/a><\/em>\u00a0in\u00a0Mother Jones<\/em>]:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Giora Proskurowski, a researcher at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, recently discovered small amounts of hydrocarbons forming through an abiotic process deep in the Atlantic. The abiotic oil believers have seized on his findings, but Proskurowski says sorry\u2014talk of bottomless, Saudi-free oil is \u2018a pipe dream\u2019\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This begs at least one question: Is a \u201cpipe dream<\/em>\u201d for new sources of oil reasonably close to could possibly being sort of \u201cplentiful<\/em>\u201d nonetheless, if facts weren\u2019t a consideration \u2026 perhaps?<\/strong><\/p>\n
