This division may help only the extremists, writes Daniel Lazare.<\/p>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<hr \/>\n<p>With Turkey downing a Russian Su-24 warplane along the Turkish-Syrian border this week,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/consortiumnews.com\/2015\/10\/16\/the-reckless-guns-of-october\/\">dire predictions<\/a>\u00a0about the dangers of escalation in the Syrian conflict are coming true. Events are spinning out of control as Syria turns into a happy hunting ground for military forces locked\u00a0on a mutual collision course.<\/p>\n<p>Up to 50 U.S. Special Operations troops are due to enter Syria\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2015\/nov\/23\/us-special-forces-to-arrive-in-syria-very-soon-as-assad-hails-russian-air-strikes\"><u>shortly<\/u><\/a>\u00a0in support of a hastily assembled Arab-Kurdish coalition that could easily come under Russian or Turkish attack.\u00a0The U.S. is stepping up its bombing raids, destroying another 238 ISIS fuel trucks in eastern Syria last weekend. Russia is targeting tankers plus\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=nCv9PLUDhg8\"><u>an ISIS training camp in Idlib<\/u><\/a>\u00a0in Syria\u2019s far north, while\u00a0France has\u00a0also upped\u00a0its bombing campaign since Nov. 13 in response to ISIS claiming credit for the terror attacks in Paris.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"image-anchor\" href=\"http:\/\/consortiumnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/saudiss-14.jpg?92867d\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-14786\" src=\"http:\/\/consortiumnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/saudiss-14-300x200.jpg?92867d\" alt=\"Saudi King Salman bids farewell to President Barack Obama at Erga Palace after a state visit to Saudi Arabia on Jan. 27, 2015.
