{"id":14879,"date":"2015-11-28T12:32:02","date_gmt":"2015-11-28T17:32:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=14879"},"modified":"2015-11-28T12:32:02","modified_gmt":"2015-11-28T17:32:02","slug":"violence-erupts-in-turkey-after-prominent-lawyer-is-assassinated-on-live-tv","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=14879","title":{"rendered":"Violence Erupts In Turkey After Prominent Lawyer Is Assassinated On Live TV"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 class=\"title\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2015-11-28\/violence-erupts-turkey-after-prominent-lawyer-assassinated-live-tv-while-giving-publ\" target=\"_blank\">Violence Erupts In Turkey After Prominent Lawyer Is Assassinated On Live TV<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>A day after Turkey\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2015-11-27\/turkey-arrests-journalists-who-exposed-erdogans-weapons-smuggling-extremist-syrian-r\">arrested two journalists\u00a0<\/a>for their report exposing Erdogan&#8217;s weapons deliveries to &#8220;extremist groups&#8221; in Syria, confirming that no dissent to the president&#8217;s foreign policy would be allowed, today a new riot has erupted in Istanbul following the dramatic murder in broad daylight of Tahir Elci,\u00a0<strong>the president of the Turkish bar association in southeastern Diyarbakir province, who was shot dead by unidentified gunmen while giving a public speech.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A campaigner for Kurdish rights, Elci had been criticized for challenging Turkey&#8217;s official stance of calling the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) a terrorist organization. A Turkish prosecutor last month demanded up to seven and a half years of prison tme for Elci on the grounds of &#8220;making propaganda of a terror organization&#8221; after remarks he made supporting the PKK.<\/p>\n<p>Just before being gunned down, Elci called for peace &amp;
