{"id":14824,"date":"2015-11-26T19:27:43","date_gmt":"2015-11-27T00:27:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=14824"},"modified":"2015-11-26T19:27:43","modified_gmt":"2015-11-27T00:27:43","slug":"oklahoma-leads-the-world-in-seismic-activity-as-2015-quake-count-tops-5000","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=14824","title":{"rendered":"Oklahoma Leads The World In Seismic Activity As 2015 Quake Count Tops 5,000"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 class=\"title\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2015-11-26\/oklahoma-leads-world-seismic-activity-2015-quake-count-tops-5000\" target=\"_blank\">Oklahoma Leads The World In Seismic Activity As 2015 Quake Count Tops 5,000<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>With\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2015-02-21\/usgs-confirms-oklahoma-quakes-are-due-fracking\">geologists having confirmed the link between fracking and earthquakes in Oklahoma<\/a>\u00a0(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2015-05-17\/billionaire-oil-ceo-demands-scientists-fired-after-oklahoma-quake-study\"><em>and energy executives trying to get those geologists fired<\/em><\/a>), the news this week that\u00a0<strong>The Sooner State leads the world in seismic activity<\/strong>\u00a0will likely see more uproar from residents.. and more lobbying dollars spent to &#8216;calm&#8217; the politicians.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/kfor.com\/2015\/11\/23\/only-a-matter-of-time-before-the-big-one-shakes-oklahoma\/\">As KFOR reports<\/a>,\u00a0<strong>this year, more than 5,000 earthquakes have been recorded<\/strong>\u00a0and experts say earthquakes in Oklahoma will likely increase in magnitude over time warning that it&#8217;s<strong>\u00a0only a matter of time before the state gets a big one<\/strong>\u00a0that will change life for those of living there.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;It&#8217;s unclear exactly how high we might go, and the predictions are upper 5-6 range for most things that I&#8217;ve seen,&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0Todd Halihan, a researcher from OSU, told KFOR NewsChannel4,<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"quote_start\">Halihan studies these quakes; his expertise is hydrogeophysics.<\/div>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Underneath any of these urban areas, whether it&#8217;s Stillwater, Cushing, Oklahoma City, Guthrie, these cities are not built to seismic standards.
