At this point, people in the region would be unable to keep cool, and after prolonged exposure, even young, healthy, fit people could die.<\/p>\n<p>There is no record that such temperatures have been reached anywhere in the world in human history. But the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nature.com\/nclimate\/journal\/vaop\/ncurrent\/full\/nclimate2833.html\" target=\"_blank\">scientific report in Nature Climate Change<\/a>\u00a0suggests that under the \u201cbusiness as usual scenario\u201d \u2212 whereby no steps are taken to address climate change, and the expanding the use of coal, oil and natural gas dumps ever greater quantities carbon dioxide in the atmosphere \u2212 then such conditions could occur once every decade or so before 2100.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Catastrophic change<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In one of geography\u2019s ironies, the region most at risk is the Gulf \u2212 the prime source of the crude oil that first began to fuel the world\u2019s accelerating economies in ways that have returned massive quantities of fossil carbon to the atmosphere and precipitated the threat of catastrophic climate change.<\/p>\n<p>The Arabian Gulf \u2013 also widely known as the Persian Gulf, and usually and diplomatically known just as \u201cthe Gulf\u201d \u2013 is home to millions of people, and to billions of dollars\u2019 worth of business and infrastructure investment.<\/p>\n<p>It is simultaneously peopled by some of the world\u2019s wealthiest citizens, and some of the world\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/climatenewsnetwork.net\/heat-has-deadly-impact-on-nepals-gulf-workers\/\" target=\"_blank\">poorest workers\u00a0already most at risk from heat exposure<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;click on the above link to read the rest of the article&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Soaring heat and humidity pose deadly threat Working outdoors in places such as Dubai could become seriously life threatening.
