Some of the US\u2019s major allies appear more and more convinced that Barack Obama is losing his political influence on the Syrian conflict and the fight against the self-proclaimed Islamic State terror group, according an analysis in the US media.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to\u00a0de Luce, the recent visit of\u00a0Saudi Arabia\u2019s defense minister Mohammed bin Salman to\u00a0the Russian city of\u00a0Sochi showcases on\u00a0the one hand to\u00a0what extent the \u201cpower dynamics\u201d in\u00a0the Middle East has changed, and on\u00a0the other\u00a0\u2014 that, in\u00a0US allies\u2019 eyes, President Putin is close to\u00a0taking Barack Obama\u2019s place of \u201cregional kingmaker.\u201d The author pointed out\u00a0that high-profile representatives of\u00a0Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries are now \u201cknocking on\u00a0Putin\u2019s door instead of\u00a0that of\u00a0the Oval Office.\u201dThe visit of\u00a0the Saudi minister, de Luce noted, suggests Riyadh is looking into\u00a0the opportunity of\u00a0an agreement under\u00a0which Syrian president Bashar al-Assad would stay in\u00a0power for\u00a0a longer period of\u00a0time in\u00a0exchange for\u00a0the creation of\u00a0Russian-Saudi joint forces in\u00a0the fight against\u00a0IS.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf the Saudi visit was coordinated with\u00a0the US, that would be one thing, but\u00a0if it wasn\u2019t, it was the Saudis again saying to\u00a0us, \u2018You\u2019re irrelevant,\u2019\u201d FP quoted former US ambassador to\u00a0Syria Ryan Crocker as\u00a0saying.<\/p>\n
