As we noted below,\u00a0<strong>bond prices are collapsing and default risk is soaring<\/strong>, and with the nation&#8217;s currency collapsing amid the lower-for-longer oil prices,\u00a0<strong>$90 billion of dollar-denominated debt could soon potentially be too burdensome for the company to repay<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><u><strong>Default Risk is exploding&#8230;<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/user3303\/imageroot\/2015\/09-overflow\/20150923_PBR1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/user3303\/imageroot\/2015\/09-overflow\/20150923_PBR1_0.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"317\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.newyorkshockexchange.com\/content\/view\/787\/37\/\">And as New York Shock Exchange details,<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>S&amp;P recently lowered Brazil&#8217;s credit rating to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/seekingalpha.com\/article\/3500706-s-and-p-cuts-brazil-to-junk-status-etf-plunges-7-percent-after-hours\">junk status<\/a>. It later\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.standardandpoors.com\/en_US\/web\/guest\/article\/-\/view\/type\/HTML\/id\/1449547\">downgraded<\/a>\u00a060 corporate and infrastructure entities in Brazil, including cutting Petrobras (NYSE:<a title=\"Petrobras - Petroleo Brasileiro S.A.\" href=\"http:\/\/seekingalpha.com\/symbol\/pbr\">PBR<\/a>) two notches to &#8220;BB.&#8221; Petrobras has been reeling from a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/seekingalpha.com\/article\/2921906-rolls-royce-accused-in-the-petrobras-scandal-whos-next\">corruption scandal<\/a>that reportedly involved Petrobras&#8217; executives and directors awarding suppliers over-inflated contracts in exchange for kickbacks. The scandal has cost the company billions of dollars, and has been a blow to the reputation of Brazil&#8217;s President Dilma Rousseff.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>PBR is off about 70% over the past year, versus a 50% decline for the Brazilian ETF (NYSEARCA:<a title=\"iShares MSCI Brazil Capped ETF\" href=\"http:\/\/seekingalpha.com\/symbol\/ewz\">EWZ<\/a>) and flat growth for the S&amp;P 500 (NYSEARCA:<a title=\"SPDR S&amp;P 500 Trust ETF\" href=\"http:\/\/seekingalpha.com\/symbol\/spy\">SPY<\/a>). Investors should continue to avoid PBR for the following reasons:<\/p>\n<h3><u>Stagnant Revenue And Earnings<\/u><\/h3>\n<p><strong>When it rains, it pours for Petrobras.\u00a0<\/strong>In addition to the corruption scandal, a free fall in oil prices has stymied the company&#8217;s revenue growth.
