Politicians Still Fighting EPA Clean Power Plant Rules<\/a><\/h3>\n

U.S.<\/span>\u00a0Senator and Republican presidential hopeful Marco Rubio is, rightfully,taking a lot of criticism<\/a>\u00a0for his statement during the 2nd<\/sup>\u00a0Republican debate that \u201cAmerica is not a planet.\u201d\u00a0 This is actually the only factual statement that Rubio made about climate change during the debate, but the actual point that he was trying to make was that America cannot be the only country acting on climate change if we expect to fix the\u00a0problem.<\/p>\n

What Rubio and so many other politicians claim to want is a broad, global coalition of countries working together to address the threats of climate change.\u00a0 But that\u2019s just a campaign talking point.\u00a0 The truth is that Republican candidates do not want to see the\u00a0U.S.<\/span>\u00a0taking any role in reducing our carbon emissions, and their actions in Washington prove\u00a0it.<\/p>\n

In spite of the fact that they\u2019ve only been back at work for two weeks since their August recess, the Republican-controlled Legislative Branch of the\u00a0U.S.<\/span>\u00a0government has been moving at a break-neck speed to undermine both the\u00a0EPA<\/span>\u2019s carbon emissions standards and the actual agency\u00a0itself.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0U.S.<\/span>\u00a0House of Representatives has\u00a0already passed a measure<\/a>\u00a0that would delay implementation of the new power plant rules from the\u00a0EPA<\/span>, but the Senate has yet to take up the measure in full, although a move is expected in coming\u00a0months.<\/p>\n

However, Republicans in both Chambers have admitted that the plan is a fool\u2019s errand, as any legislation that dismantles the new regulations would be quickly vetoed by President Obama.\u00a0 But that hasn\u2019t stopped them from wasting time trying to pass a symbolic piece of\u00a0legislation.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, as\u00a0Republican Rep. Ed Whitfield points out<\/a>, the Republican Party in Washington,\u00a0D.C.<\/span>\u00a0is too dysfunctional at this moment to secure enough support from both the public and from\u00a0within the Party<\/a>\u00a0to actually allow the measure to move\u00a0forward.<\/p>\n
