Chris Hedges doesn\u2019t spare Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton or even Bernie Sanders in this wide-ranging take on the big swindle of neoliberalism and his warning for the future in the hands of a \u201crapacious oligarchic elite.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hedges made his statements during a speech he gave in Toronto on Sept. 3, drawing from his newest book, \u201cWages of Rebellion: The Moral Imperative of Revolt,\u201d as well as from his Aug. 30 Truthdig column,\u00a0\u201cThe Great Unraveling.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

Some particularly good lines from Hedges\u2019 speech include these well-taken points: \u201cEvery promise made by the proponents of neoliberalism is a lie,\u201d \u201cThe left is still alive … barely,\u201d\u00a0 and \u201cDemocracy, especially in the U.S., is a farce, vomiting up right-wing demagogues such as Donald Trump, who has a serious chance to become the Republican presidential nominee\u2014and perhaps even president.\u201d<\/p>\n
