{"id":12181,"date":"2015-09-12T15:29:19","date_gmt":"2015-09-12T20:29:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=12181"},"modified":"2015-09-12T15:29:19","modified_gmt":"2015-09-12T20:29:19","slug":"regime-change-strategy-spreads-chaos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=12181","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Regime Change\u2019 Strategy Spreads Chaos"},"content":{"rendered":"<header>\n<h3 class=\"entry-title\"><a href=\"https:\/\/consortiumnews.com\/2015\/09\/11\/regime-change-strategy-spreads-chaos\/\" target=\"_blank\">\u2018Regime Change\u2019 Strategy Spreads Chaos<\/a><\/h3>\n<p class=\"entry-meta\"><strong>Official Washington\u2019s \u201cregime change\u201d strategy for governments that have somehow gotten on the \u201cenemies list\u201d is now threatening to destabilize not just the Mideast and Africa but Europe as well, yet there is little indication that these policies will change, as Nat Parry describes.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<hr \/>\n<p>It has long been an article of faith that despite whatever slipups it might make along the way in pursuit of its foreign policy, the United States is always motivated by a sincerely held desire to promote democracy and human rights around the world, which, in turn, is seen as vital in ensuring global stability and prosperity.<br \/>\n<span id=\"more-15867\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The roots of this principle can be traced back to the days of \u201cManifest Destiny\u201d \u2013 the prevalent mid-19th Century view that it was Anglo-Saxon Americans\u2019 providential mission to expand their civilization westward across North America \u2013 and can be identified in the pronouncements of presidents including Woodrow Wilson and John F. Kennedy. But it was perhaps most eagerly embraced by George W. Bush, who claimed it as his divine mission to combat tyranny around the world. He\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/georgewbush-whitehouse.archives.gov\/infocus\/freedomagenda\/\"><u>called it<\/u><\/a>\u00a0\u201cthe Freedom Agenda.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"image-anchor\" href=\"http:\/\/consortiumnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/georgewbushiraqwar.jpg?55ac53\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-8433\" src=\"http:\/\/consortiumnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/georgewbushiraqwar-300x228.jpg?55ac53\" alt=\"President George W. Bush announcing the start of his invasion of Iraq on March 19, 2003.\" width=\"300\" height=\"228\" data-lazy-loaded=\"true\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the waning days of the Bush presidency, on Jan. 12, 2009, the White House even issued a \u201cfact sheet\u201d attempting to secure Bush\u2019s legacy and defend his record in \u201cspreading freedom,\u201d which by then had already been largely discredited thanks to the disastrous U.S. invasion and occupation of Iraq.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Bush has kept his pledge to strengthen democracy and promote peace around the world,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/georgewbush-whitehouse.archives.gov\/infocus\/bushrecord\/factsheets\/freedomagenda.html\"><u>the fact sheet read<\/u><\/a>.\u00a0\u201cHe has promoted the spread of freedom as the great alternative to the terrorists\u2019 ideology of hatred, because expanding liberty and democracy will help defeat extremism and protect the American people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Although it was never fully articulated precisely how the use of U.S. military force would \u201cpromote the spread of freedom,\u201d the so-called Freedom Agenda had broad appeal among American neoconservatives, arms manufacturers and others who had a vested interest in expanding U.S. power and deepening the nation\u2019s involvement in geopolitical hotspots.<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;click on the above link to read the rest of the article&#8230;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u2018Regime Change\u2019 Strategy Spreads Chaos Official Washington\u2019s \u201cregime change\u201d strategy for governments that have somehow gotten on the \u201cenemies list\u201d is now threatening to destabilize not just the Mideast and Africa but Europe as well, yet there is little indication that these policies will change, as Nat Parry describes.
