{"id":12054,"date":"2015-09-09T18:41:03","date_gmt":"2015-09-09T23:41:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=12054"},"modified":"2015-09-09T18:41:03","modified_gmt":"2015-09-09T23:41:03","slug":"so-you-really-want-to-make-syrian-refugees-an-election-issue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=12054","title":{"rendered":"So you really want to make Syrian Refugees an Election Issue?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/markjeftovic.ca\/do-you-really-want-to-make-syrian-refugees-an-election-issue\/\" target=\"_blank\">So you really want to make Syrian Refugees an Election Issue?<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Thomas Pynchon once wrote:\u00a0\u00a0<em>\u2018If they can get you asking the wrong questions, they don\u2019t have to worry about the answers.\u2019<\/em>\u00a0 Words to live by for the \u00a0the major political parties in Canadian Federal politics.<\/p>\n<p>The refugee crisis in Syria, Iraq and spilling into Europe has become an election issue, with each of the major parties pulling magic numbers out of their ears around \u201chow many\u201d is the \u201cright number\u201d of refugees to admit to Canada, which once\u00a0again\u00a0underscores the Libertarian criticism that the both major political parties espouse\u00a0largely\u00a0uniform campaign platforms in which the issues are for the most part homogenous while the really important questions are rendered conveniently out-of-scope (and even the NDP\u2019s, sniffing a faint shot at power, are\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/globalnews.ca\/news\/1843737\/given-the-power-mulcair-would-amend-anti-terror-bill-not-repeal-it\/\">pivoting off their principles<\/a>\u00a0in order to get it)<\/p>\n<p>If we peer behind the veil of mainstream media oversimplification we find that the humanitarian crisis we are faced with today are the straight line consequences of a decades-old policy on the part of the West (defined as the US, the UK, Israel and including complicit Canada) to subvert and destabilize the very nations that are submerged in civil war and strife.<span id=\"more-296\"><\/span><\/p>\n<h2>A String of Coup D\u2019Etats<\/h2>\n<p>Syria and Iran were both once full-on democracies who\u2019s duly elected governments committed the literal, mortal sins of offending Western corporate powers. Iran\u2019s\u00a0Mohammad Mosaddegh\u00a0wanted to audit the books of the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company and was instead overthrown and replaced with the Shah. We\u2019re all aware how that turned out why Iran is so fond of the West to this day.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/markjeftovic.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/iranian-hostage-crisis_2-1024x768-e1441725716407.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-320\" src=\"http:\/\/markjeftovic.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/iranian-hostage-crisis_2-1024x768-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Foreign Policy FTW\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Syria\u2019s plight is not as well known, our (meaning the West\u2019s) first political coup d\u2019etat against their elected government was in 1949, when the CIA over throws\u00a0\u00a0Shure al-Quwatly and replaces him with the first of many military strongmen in Syria,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.countercurrents.org\/hashmi150614.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Colonel Husni al-Zaim<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;click on the above link to read the rest of the article&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So you really want to make Syrian Refugees an Election Issue?
