Assange spoke to RT about the \u201cUS Empire\u201d and mechanisms it uses to expand its powers worldwide.<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"article__text text \">\n<p>\u201c<em>Obama has prosecuted more whistleblowers under the espionage act than all previous presidents combined \u2013 more than twice as many<\/em>,\u201d Assange told RT\u2019s Afshin Rattansi in a London interview.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Of course he [Obama] says that\u2019s espionage, but there is no allegation that any of these people have given their secrets to a foreign government or are working with these days, what did leave the WikiLeaks founder \u201c<em>surprised<\/em>\u201d was the degree of \u201c<em>academic censorship<\/em>\u201d within the US and UK.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>It\u2019s not in sciences or medicine, where there are some 30,000 citations to material in WikiLeaks, it\u2019s not even in the courts \u2013 European Court of Human Rights, international tribunals, even UK domestic courts use that material<\/em>,\u201d Assange told RT on the release of his book, The WikiLeaks Files, which he compiled while stuck in Ecuador\u2019s London embassy.<\/p>\n<p>Where it does exist, according to Assange, is in the realms of diplomacy and academia.
