{"id":1190,"date":"2014-11-06T19:25:04","date_gmt":"2014-11-07T00:25:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=1190"},"modified":"2014-11-06T19:25:04","modified_gmt":"2014-11-07T00:25:04","slug":"journalists-silenced-as-killers-walk-free-our-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=1190","title":{"rendered":"Journalists Silenced as Killers Walk Free &#8211; Our World"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href='http:\/\/ourworld.unu.edu\/en\/journalists-silenced-as-killers-walk-free'>Journalists Silenced as Killers Walk Free &#8211; Our World<\/a>.<br \/>\nA new report published by the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) shows that nine out of 10 cases of journalist killings go unpunished.<\/p>\n<p>The report found that between 2004 and 2013, 370 journalists were murdered \u201cin direct retaliation for their work\u201d and that in 90 percent of these cases there was total impunity \u2014 \u201cno arrests, no prosecutions, no convictions\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>CPJ also found that although \u201cin some cases, the assassin or an accomplice has been convicted, in only a handful is the mastermind of the crime brought to justice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The report\u2019s author, Elisabeth Witchel, told IPS, \u201cImpunity has really grown to be one of the greatest threats to journalist safety.
