Last month was the warmest on record worldwide with\u00a0many countries and the world\u2019s oceans experiencing intense heat waves, the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncdc.noaa.gov\/sotc\/\" target=\"_blank\">said today in a report<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The report found that \u201cthe July average temperature across global land and ocean surfaces was 1.46\u00b0F above the 20th\u00a0century average.\u201d And since July is \u201cclimatologically the warmest month for the year, this was also the all-time highest monthly temperature in the 1880\u20132015 record, at 61.86\u00b0F, surpassing the previous record set in 1998 by 0.14\u00b0F.\u201d It comes as no surprise that Arctic sea ice hasn\u2019t fared well with all this warmth.\u00a0The average Arctic sea ice extent was the eighth smallest\u00a0since records began in 1979.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_366875\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncdc.noaa.gov\/sotc\/service\/global\/extremes\/201507.gif\"><span class=\"image-container wp-image-366875 size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-366875 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/ecowatch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/noaachart1.jpg\" alt=\"noaachart1\" width=\"650\" height=\"423\" \/><\/span><\/a><figcaption id=\"figcaption_attachment_366875\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Click on chart for larger view. Graphic credit: NOAA<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The report also found that it\u2019s been the warmest January to July period on record, all but ensuring that 2015 will be the hottest year on record.\u00a0\u201cI would say [we\u2019re] 99 percent certain that it\u2019s going to be the warmest year on record,\u201d Jessica Blunden, a climate scientist with ERT, Inc., at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, said during a press teleconference on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Evidence of this record heat is everywhere you look. Thirteen of the last 15 years have been the warmest years on record. According to a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.climatecentral.org\/news\/a-broken-record-2014-hottest-year-18546\" target=\"_blank\">Climate Central analysis<\/a>, \u201cthe odds of that happening randomly without the boost of global warming was 1 in 27 million.\u201d At\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ecowatch.com\/\">EcoWatch<\/a>\u00a0we have covered extensively the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ecowatch.com\/2015\/06\/23\/heat-waves-hit-planet\/\">heat waves hitting\u00a0the globe<\/a>\u00a0in recent months.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ecowatch.com\/2015\/05\/26\/india-heatwave\/\">India<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ecowatch.com\/2015\/06\/24\/pakistan-heat-wave\/\">Pakistan<\/a>\u00a0both had heat waves that killed thousands of people and even melted the roads. Extreme weather has scorched the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ecowatch.com\/2015\/08\/13\/deadly-heat-waves-sweep-globe\">Middle East, Asia, Europe and the U.S.<\/a>\u00a0Earlier this month,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ecowatch.com\/2015\/08\/03\/heat-wave-iran\/\">the heat index in Iran hit 164\u00b0F<\/a>, among the hottest temperatures ever endured by mankind.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NOAA: July Was Hottest Month Ever Worldwide July was a scorcher, globally speaking.
