They used his \u201cSeven Dirty Words\u201d segment to show the type of language that was being used in records and broadcasts. However, the government\u2019s interest in his work did not stop there.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.muckrock.com\/news\/archives\/2015\/aug\/13\/george-carlins-fbi-file\/\">Just after his 1969 appearance on the Jackie Gleason show,<\/a>\u00a0Carlin caught the attention of the FBI because he made jokes about then-FBI chief J. Edgar Hoover. According to the government, Carlin had \u201c<i>referred to the Bureau and the Director in a satirical vein.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n<p>They added that his act was \u201c<i>considered to be in very poor taste<\/i>\u201d and \u201c<i>it was obvious that he was using the prestige of the Bureau and Mr. Hoover to enhance his performance.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/theantimedia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/carlin1-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-21118\" src=\"http:\/\/theantimedia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/carlin1-1.png\" alt=\"carlin1 (1)\" width=\"500\" height=\"138\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After Carlin\u2019s appearance on the show, the staff of Jackie Gleason received a number of anonymous letters \u2014 allegedly from fans but possibly from the FBI \u2014 condemning Carlin for speaking about the government in the critical way that he did.
