It&#8217;s too flawed,&#8217; says former participant<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dozens of participants have dropped out of the\u00a0controversial National Energy Board review of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/british-columbia\/topic\/Company\/Kinder%20Morgan\">Kinder Morgan&#8217;s\u00a0proposed Trans Mountain pipeline expansion<\/a>, saying they can no\u00a0longer support a &#8220;biased&#8221; and &#8220;unfair&#8221; process.<\/p>\n<p>Thirty-five commenters and interveners, including the Wilderness\u00a0Committee and the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society, sent a\u00a0letter to the board Wednesday announcing their immediate withdrawal.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a sad day. We do not like to fly in the face of regulatory\u00a0processes,&#8221; said Wilderness Committee climate campaigner Eoin\u00a0Madden in a phone interview. &#8220;But we can&#8217;t abide by the system any\u00a0more. It&#8217;s too flawed.&#8221;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/1.3095622\">Kinder Morgan pipeline plan could cost Canada $22.1B, says SFU study<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/1.3173812\">City of Burnaby says no to extra RCMP at controversial pipeline hearings<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The news came as the energy board was to release its draft\u00a0conditions for the pipeline expansion. Commenters have six days to\u00a0respond to the conditions, which are legally\u00a0required and do not\u00a0mean the board has made a decision yet.<\/p>\n<p>The latest departures are in addition to the earlier withdrawal\u00a0of two other high-profile interveners. Economist Robyn Allan\u00a0announced her exit from the &#8220;rigged&#8221; process in May, while former\u00a0BC Hydro chief executive Marc Eliesen called it a &#8220;farce&#8221; when he\u00a0pulled out last year.<\/p>\n<h2>NEB disappointed by withdrawal<\/h2>\n<p>Spokesperson Tara O&#8217;Donovan said the board was disappointed the\u00a0participants had chosen to withdraw.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As interveners and commenters in the process they had an\u00a0opportunity to add their voice to the record, and work to influence\u00a0the decision of the board,&#8221; she said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_11_0_1_1439465668702_28\">The review includes about 400 interveners, who can provide\u00a0evidence and testimony, and 1,300 commenters, who can submit\u00a0letters.
