{"id":10895,"date":"2015-08-11T07:48:12","date_gmt":"2015-08-11T12:48:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=10895"},"modified":"2015-08-11T07:48:12","modified_gmt":"2015-08-11T12:48:12","slug":"lifting-ban-on-u-s-crude-oil-export-would-enable-massive-fracking-expansion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olduvai.ca\/?p=10895","title":{"rendered":"Lifting Ban On U.S. Crude Oil Export Would Enable Massive Fracking Expansion"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"field field-name-field-bimage field-type-image field-label-hidden\">\n<div class=\"field-items\">\n<div class=\"field-item even\">\n<h3 id=\"page-title\" class=\"page__title title\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.desmogblog.com\/2015\/08\/10\/lifting-oil-export-ban-would-enable-massive-fracking-expansion\" target=\"_blank\">Lifting Ban On U.S. Crude Oil Export Would Enable Massive Fracking Expansion<\/a><\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.desmogblog.com\/sites\/beta.desmogblog.com\/files\/styles\/blog_teaser\/public\/blogimages\/waiting%20for%20climate%20change-issac-cordal.jpg?itok=6PJq2Iib\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"150\" \/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden\">\n<div class=\"field-items\">\n<div class=\"field-item even\">\n<p>In a recent\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/lifting-the-export-ban-on-crude-oil-would-be-a-boon-to-the-us-economy\/2015\/08\/02\/32cfcde4-37c8-11e5-b673-1df005a0fb28_story.html\" target=\"_blank\">Washington Post editorial<\/a>\u00a0supporting oil industry efforts to lift the existing ban on exporting crude oil produced in America, the editors\u00a0stated:<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"dquo\">\u201c<\/span>The most serious objection to lifting the ban comes from environmentalists who worry that it would lower fossil fuel prices and lead to more oil\u00a0consumption.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And then they make the case that this is actually a positive as there may be some\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.eenews.net\/stories\/1060022762\" target=\"_blank\">negotiations<\/a>\u00a0that result in support for \u201cenergy research funding, efficiency programs or, in an ideal world, a charge on carbon dioxide emissions to the package could balance its possible effects on the\u00a0environment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In an ideal world, the climate wouldn\u2019t be changing either. But we don\u2019t live in an ideal world, do we? And the oil industry usually gets what it wants and environmental concerns go by the wayside regardless of who is in the White House.
