Boeing subsidiary Insitu would like to be able to\u00a0deliver\u00a0spyware via\u00a0drone.<\/p>\n<p>The plan\u00a0is described in internal emails from the Italian company\u00a0Hacking Team, which makes off-the-shelf software that can remotely\u00a0infect a suspect\u2019s computer or smartphone, accessing files and recording calls, chats, emails and more.\u00a0A hacker attacked the Milan-based firm earlier this month and released hundreds of gigabytes of company information online.<\/p>\n<p>Among the emails is a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wikileaks.org\/hackingteam\/emails\/emailid\/1081990\">recap of a meeting<\/a>\u00a0in June of this year, which gives a \u201croadmap\u201d of projects that Hacking Team\u2019s engineers have underway.<\/p>\n<p>On the list: Develop a way to infect computers via drone. One engineer is assigned the task of developing a \u201cmini\u201d infection device, which could be \u201cruggedized\u201d and \u201ctransportable by drone (!)\u201d the write-up notes enthusiastically in Italian.<\/p>\n<p>The request appears to have originated with a query from the Washington-based Insitu, which makes a range of unmanned systems, including the\u00a0small ScanEagle surveillance drone, which has\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/phasezero.gawker.com\/drone-of-the-day-scaneagle-1717434872\">long been used<\/a>\u00a0by the\u00a0militaries of the U.S. and other countries. Insitu also\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.insitu.com\/services\/flight-demonstrations\">markets<\/a>\u00a0its drones for law enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>An Insitu engineer\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wikileaks.org\/hackingteam\/emails\/emailid\/553081\">wrote<\/a>\u00a0to Hacking Team this April: \u201cWe see potential in integrating your Wi-Fi hacking capability into an airborne system and would be interested in starting a conversation with one of your engineers to go over, in more depth, the payload capabilities including the detailed size, weight, and power specs of your Galileo System.\u201d (Galileo is the name of the most recent version of Hacking Team\u2019s spyware, known as Remote Control System.)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;click on the above link to read the rest of the article&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hacking Team and Boeing Subsidiuary Envisioned Drones Deploying Spyware There are lots of ways that government spies\u00a0can attack\u00a0your computer, but a U.S. drone company is scheming to offer them one more.
